Setup

Follow these steps to complete your Tipalti account setup through the Tax1099 portal.

Step 1. Assign the Application Authorizer user role

  1. In Tipalti Hub, navigate to Administration > User Management.
  2. Find the user. You can use the search box by typing the user's name and selecting the user from the populated list.
  3. Under the "General" section, toggle on the "Application Authorizer" permission.

If you don’t see the permission, submit a request to the Tipalti Support Team to enabled it.

 

Step 2. Create a payer in the Tax1099 portal

  1. Log into the Tax1099 portal.

If you don’t have a Tax1099.com account, sign up for one for free using Tipalti’s referral link.

  1. In the left-hand menu, click "People" and then "Manage Payer".
  2. Click "Add Payer".
  3. Fill out the payer data and click "Add". The created payer is now available in the payer list on the Tipalti integration page.

If you have multiple entities, you need to create a payer for each entity for which 1099 forms need to be filed.

Step 3. Connect Tax1099 to your Tipalti account

  1. Navigate to Import > Tipalti.
  2. From the "Select Payer" dropdown menu, select the payer that was created in Step 2.
  3. Click "Connect" and perform the OAuth handshake process by logging in with the email address and password used to access Tipalti Hub.

Only users with "3rd Party App Subscriber" permission can perform this step.

  1. After authenticating, click the "Allow" checkbox to allow the application to access its data and click confirm.

If you have multiple entities, you need to complete Step 3 for each payer for which 1099 forms need to be filed.

Step 4. Load 1099 Filing Data

  1. Navigate to Import > Tipalti screen to open the "Load 1099 filling Data" wizard.
  2. In step 2 of the wizard, do the followings:
    1. In the "Choose your Tipalti Payer" field, select the payer.
    2. In the "Tax Year" field, select the year.
    3. In the "Form Name" field, select the form type.

  3. In step of the wizard, set the filters to filter the data by "Entity Type" and "Payer Entity".
  4.  In step 3 of the wizard, do one of the following:

    1. Click "Load" to pull data from the 1099 preparation report into Tax1099 automatically using the API.
    2. Click "Select files" to upload the Tipalti 1099 Preparation report in CSV.

    The 1099 Preparation report can be downloaded by navigating to Reports > Tax forms > 1099 preparation in Tipalti Hub.

    If you are not using Tipalti's Bills module, you will need to download your 1099 preparation report and copy/paste the data into one of the files linked below. These files contain all the necessary column headers that the Tax1099 integration uses to correctly map the data. Please make sure to use the correct file depending on if you have a single entity or multiple entities with Tipalti.

  5. Click "Next".
