Tipalti Cards

Overview

There are three main types of Tipalti Card: a Virtual Bills Card, a Virtual Expenses Card, and a Physical Expenses Card.

A virtual card only exists in digital form, but like a traditional bank card, it contains a 16-digit card number, a 3-digit CVV code, and an expiry date, and is stored in the Tipalti Hub. A physical card is like your classic corporate card, which can be issued and shipped to your employees, while being fully managed by you.

To enable Tipalti Cards, contact your Tipalti rep, then follow the steps to Add a card.
To sync and manage your third-party (non-Tipalti issuer) cards, go to Connect corporate cards.

Tipalti Expenses Cards (virtual and physical) and Bills Cards (virtual only) are available to US and UK entities.

Description

Card types

Bills Card | Virtual

The reusable virtual Bills Card is for making invoice-backed payments via Tipalti  Card, and is especially suited for recurring payments. Available for payers in the US and the UK, the Bills Card can be assigned to a payee for multiple transactions. Once a bill is approved and processed in Tipalti, payers can select one or more card transactions to match the bill.

The virtual Bills Card allows you to:

  • Utilize the bill approval and PO matching flows for card payments.
  • Auto-sync card transactions to ERPs as a payment for the bill.
  • Earn cashback on every dollar spent.
  • Leverage approved credit lines for payments.
  • Assign unlimited cards at no extra cost.

Expenses Card | Virtual & Physical

The virtual Expenses Card is used to pay a single payee or a category of vendors, and it requires receipt uploads. It’s most often used for employees' specific expenses, such as digital subscriptions, online ads, and other spending. You can set the expected spend, the budget owner, and the expense account, and whether to skip financial reviews for this card.

The physical Expenses Card is a real plastic card that can be used to pay in person at the point of sale. Like the virtual Expenses Card, it requires receipt uploads. It’s most often used as a corporate card for employee travel and entertainment expenses, though it could also be used for other spending purposes.

The Expenses Card allows you to:

  • Track expenses and reimbursements seamlessly with Tipalti Expenses.
  • Embed spending rules into each card.
  • Identify unrecognized merchants and cancel cards to prevent misuse.
  • Benefit from enhanced security and fraud protection.
  • Assign unlimited cards at no extra cost.

Expenses Card (UK) | Virtual & Physical

Tipalti also offers a corporate card for the UK market (early adopters) with virtual and physical Tipalti cards. Designed for UK-based entities, the UK Tipalti Card can be used for corporate card spend and will have the same unified Card and Expenses experience we already offer for US payers. This means UK entities can create and assign a card exactly the same way as a US card, and once created, the card will display in Manage Cards in the Tipalti Hub.

If you have a UK-based entity and wish to activate UK Tipalti Cards, contact your Tipalti rep.

The Tipalti Card in UK allows you to:

  • Issue cards for employees of UK entities, with GBP as the transaction currency.
  • Sync VAT tax codes and transaction data with ERPs
(supports NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, and Intacct).
  • Improve security and fraud prevention with 3DS authentication.
