Some tax forms expire, while others do not. For forms that expire, Tipalti sends a tax form expiration notice to payees, advising them to submit a new form. Reminders are sent in three intervals of 90 days, 60 days, 3 weeks, and 7 days before the expiration date.
The following tax forms are valid for the year signed plus three following calendar years, after which the forms expire automatically. For example, a form signed in June 2025 will expire on December 31, 2028.
- W-8BEN
- W-8BEN-E
- W-8ECI
- W-8EXP
The 8233 form expires annually from the date signed. The W-8IMY and W-9 forms have no expiration.
The Certificate of No U.S. Activities also has no expiration date. However, if the payer requests an annual renewal of the certificate, then the payee will receive a tax form expiration notice 60 days before the expiration date. If payees haven't signed the certificate by the deadline, they will become unpayable and are notified that their certificate has expired.
